Together, the companies unveiled VMware Cloud on Equinix Metal, a new distributed cloud service that will provide a more efficient, secure and cost-effective cloud option to support enterprise applications. The service will combine cloud infrastructure as a service managed and supported by VMware with the global interconnected Bare Metal as a Service offering from Equinix. The service will extend customers’ cloud environments into distributed metro areas to meet critical enterprise performance requirements at the edge while enabling them to maintain the integrity of enterprise workloads.

Customers will be able to purchase VMware Cloud Software as a Service from VMware and Bare Metal as a Service capability from Equinix.

“As enterprises accelerate their digital transformation by adopting hybrid multi-cloud architectures, they need consistent application experiences that span private and public clouds and span from core to edge,” said Zachary Smith, chief edge infrastructure services provider at Equinix. “We are excited to partner with VMware to provide a dedicated, on-demand cloud infrastructure solution that can be deployed globally. Customers benefit from secure connections to their private or on-premises critical environments, as well as the thousands of clouds, networks and other ecosystem participants that come together at Equinix.
