Google improves Airplane mode on android by making Wi-Fi stay connected when you turn on Airplane mode. Even better, you might not even need the latest version of Android 13 to enable this feature.
Whereas 9to5GoogleReports suggest that this feature has only rolled out in Android 13 QPR1 beta and stable updates, a Pixel support The article says the devices just need to be running Android 11 or later.
Correction: We have updated this story. iPhone lets you use Wi-Fi in airplane mode in iOS 16. We apologize for the error.
Airplane mode has come a long way since it first appeared on smartphones. That’s admittedly a startling statement to say about a feature that’s basically used in one place, but it’s true. I remember when I turned Airplane mode on once only to find that my Bluetooth headphones didn’t suddenly disconnect – what a huge improvement that was. But it was all the way back Android 11.
Hopefully this Airplane Mode upgrade will come to others Android phones soon, because I absolutely want this feature to be active on my next flight. It was so frustrating every time I turned on airplane mode and had to reconnect my wireless headphones. If I don’t have to disconnect from Wi-Fi either, Airplane mode may actually be fine.
Google Pixel Airplane Mode Upgrade: How It Works
There isn’t really any work to enable this feature update – it activates by default. The only problem is that you must already be connected to Wi-Fi when you activate Airplane mode to activate the function. Don’t worry, if you connect to Wi-Fi in Airplane mode, it will also activate the feature.
If you’re already connected to Wi-Fi, when you turn Airplane mode on, your Pixel phone will send you a push notification from the system telling you that: “If you keep Wi-Fi on in Airplane mode, it will stay on the next day. while you are on the plane [SIC] mode.” If you tap on the notification, it just takes you to the aforementioned Pixel support page explaining how wireless connections work in Airplane mode on a Pixel phone.
If you don’t want your phone to stay connected to Wi-Fi in Airplane mode, this is an easy fix. Simply turn off Wi-Fi on your Pixel phone and it will default back to turning off Wi-Fi when you enable Airplane mode.
